WASHINGTON - George Washington women's water polo head coach Scott Reed announced today that incoming freshmen Maggie Ball, Maddie Goodell and Erin McGeoy will join the Colonials this fall.
Maggie Ball, a 5-foot-11 center defender from Saratoga, California, led Saint Francis High School to three straight West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) championships and back-to-back California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Central Coast Section titles in 2012 and 2013. A Scholar-Athlete, Ball also earned All-Daily News honorable mention from the San Jose Mercury News as a junior.
"Maggie is a solid center defender that sees the pool well," said Coach Reed. "She can make passes and knows how to use her height to her advantage."
An attacker from Costa Mesa, California, Maddie Goodell led Newport Harbor High School to three straight league titles from 2011-13 and to second place in CIF Division I as a junior and senior.
"Maddie played for a talented high school program which won league titles three years in a row," said Coach Reed. "She has smarts and knows the game well. Maddie will be a good addition to the attacker position."
Erin McGeoy, a center defender from Santa Barbara, California, was named to the All-Channel League second team as a senior after garnering honorable mention the previous year. McGeoy led her Santa Barbara High School team to three straight league titles from 2012-14 and to the CIF Division I semifinals each of the last two seasons.
"Erin is a center defender who knows how to be actively moving at all times," said Coach Reed.
Ball, Goodell and McGeoy join an incoming class that also includes Jacqueline Bywater and Scarlett Hallahan, who signed their National Letters of Intent during the early signing period.
"This freshman class has some very big shoes to fill," said Coach Reed. "After graduating five starters from last year, we will be relying on this class to step up right away. With a good mix of offense and defense, this is perhaps the most complete freshman class that GW has seen."
