PRINCETON, N.J. - The George Washington men's rowing team extended its unbeaten streak to 21 races over the past three weekends with a quartet of victories over Georgetown and Rutgers on Saturday afternoon on Lake Carnegie.
"It was a good day and everyone raced well," said Head Coach Mark Davis. "I think each boat could have rowed even better but we have a lot of respect for these two rivals."
GW's 4V/2F kicked off racing with a 10-second victory over the field, finishing the 2,000-meter course in 6:34.50, ahead of Rutgers (6:44.80) and Georgetown (7:01.50).
The Freshmen 8 continued its impressive season by earning a four-second victory in 6:13.70. Georgetown took second in 6:14.10, followed by Rutgers in 6:47.40.
The JV8 made it three wins in a row with an open-water win over Georgetown and third-place Rutgers. The Colonials finished in 6:12.90 ahead of the Hoyas (6:23.70) and Scarlet Knights (6:43.20).
The Varsity 8 made it a clean sweep after completing the course in 6:04.30. Rutgers followed four seconds behind in 6:08.20 with Georgetown taking third in 6:08.90.
"We are happy with today's result but next weekend is going to be very tough against Navy and Columbia," said Coach Davis. "We are up against two very fast programs. So we are looking forward to getting back to work this week and seeing if we can continue the momentum."
