No. 17 GW Men's Squash Splits Saturday Doubleheader

ITHACA, N.Y. - The No. 17 George Washington men's squash team rallied from a 8-1 loss to No. 8 Cornell to top No. 15 Western Ontario, 8-1, in a Saturday doubleheader at the Belkin International Squash Courts.
GW (4-1) was led by sophomore Andres de Frutos, who accounted for the Colonial victory against Cornell. De Frutos dropped the first set before rallying for a 5-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-3 win over Sebastian Objeta at No. 2.
Against Western Ontario, the Colonials won five of their eight victories in straight sets. De Fruots (11-5, 11-9, 11-3) led the way at No. 2 while freshmen Oisin Logan (11-3, 11-9, 11-3 at No. 3), John Bassett (11-8, 11-5, 11-5 at No. 6) and Omar Mussehl (11-7, 11-8, 11-7 at No. 8) followed suit.
Freshman Mason Ripka grinded out a five-set victory at No. 1 over James Van Staveren, winning 11-8, 11-13, 11-8, 7-11, 11-3 while classmate Billy Berner rallied for a 10-12, 11-5, 6-11, 11-4, 11-3 win over Matthew Sharpe at No. 4.
Sophomore James Reiss also picked up a win, downing Eric Mercer at No. 5, 15-13, 8-11, 11-3, 11-7.
GW returns to action when it faces No. 18 Brown (Sat., 4:00 p.m.) and the University of Toronto (Sun., 10:00 a.m.) next weekend in Boston, Massachusetts.
