Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Washington men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Revolutionary Rival George Mason on Friday evening in Atlantic 10 Conference action at George Mason Stadium.
GW (6-8-1, 2-3-1 A-10) played the defending A-10 champions to a scoreless first half, as the teams combined for just five shots in the opening frame.
Mason (11-3-3, 4-2-1 A-10) cracked the scoreboard in the 63rd minute when the league's leading scorer, Timi Mulgrew, converted a pass from Henning Dirks from 10 yards out into the left corner for what proved to be the game-winner.
Senior Matthew Scott took a team-high two shots for the Colonials. Junior goalkeeper Jean-Pierre van der Merwe made five saves while his counterpart, Michael Butts, stopped two shots for the Patriots. GW held a 3-2 edge on corner kicks.
The Colonials return to action on Sunday when they host A-10 rival VCU at 1 p.m. at the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
