Box Score PITTSBURGH - The George Washington men's soccer team saw its three-game unbeaten streak end with a 4-0 loss at Atlantic 10 rival Duquesne on Sunday afternoon at the Dukes' Rooney Field.
Duquesne (7-5-2, 2-2-0 A-10) got on the board early, then scored three second-half goals to seal the win.
Nick Disomma tallied what proved to be the game-winner in the 10th minute when he buried a header off a corner kick from Dorian Kouame, and the Dukes took their 1-0 lead into halftime.
Duquesne's three second-half markers came in a span of 15 minutes, with Chris Alescio opening the scoring in the 51st minute with a 20-yard shot that was deflected over GW junior goalkeeper Jean-Pierre van der Merwe. In the 60th minute, Thomas De Villardi sent a free kick to Mamadou Traore, who finished his header for the Dukes' third goal, and the fourth tally was an own goal inadvertently scored by a GW defender.
Duquesne outshot GW (6-7-1, 2-2-1 A-10), 16-9, with sophomore Spiros Tsakos taking two of the Colonials' three shots on goal. Van der Merwe recorded four saves, all in the first half, while his counterpart, Sam Frymier, stopped three shots.
The Colonials return to action on Friday when they visit Revolutionary Rival George Mason for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
