WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's water polo team placed seven athletes on the 2013 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women's Varsity Scholar-Athlete Team and six on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic Team, the organizations announced.
Senior Jessie Hurd garnered recognition for the fourth straight season, as she earned superior status for boasting a cumulative grade-point average between 3.41 and 3.70. She was joined at the superior level by juniors Erin Dickson and Allison Littlejohn - both three-time honorees - and freshmen Hannah Cox and Ruti Zwick. Sophomore Jessie Sinkula was also recognized as superior by the CWPA for the second year in a row.
Junior Rachael Bentley rounds out the Colonials' honorees with excellent status for a GPA between 3.20 and 3.40 for the third straight season.
With a team GPA of 3.19, GW was one of 17 teams in the CWPA and one of 32 across the nation above 3.0.
The ACWPC All-Academic Team and CWPA Scholar-Athlete Team honor varsity student-athletes who possess a 3.2 cumulative GPA or higher, and the ACWPC requires the athletes to have competed in at least half of their team's games during the 2013 season. The ACWPC recognized 347 student-athletes across the nation, while the CWPA honored 146 from its member schools.
