WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's rowing team heads north to Worcester, Mass., to compete for a conference championship at the 68th Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC) Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday.
Five seniors will be missing Sunday's Commencement on the National Mall, but were afforded a special Commencement ceremony earlier this week.
The Eastern Sprints field features 15 of the top 20 teams in the USRowing Collegiate Poll.
The Colonials have three boats entered in the regatta with morning heats scheduled to begin at 7:56 a.m., on Sunday. The top two boats from each heat will advance to the Grand Finals. The boats that finish third and fourth will advance to the Petite Finals while the remaining boats move on to the Third Level Finals.
GW's Freshmen 8 will be first on the water on Sunday morning, launching at 10:00 a.m., for a preliminary heat against Harvard, Cornell and Navy. GW's freshmen are ranked No. 6 in the EARC and have won each of their last seven races entering the weekend.
The Varsity 8, ranked No. 19 in the USRowing Collegiate Poll, launches at 11:36 a.m., against Brown, Princeton, Pennsylvania, Navy and Holy Cross.
GW will also enter a Varsity 4 in the regatta. There will be no morning heat for the V4, so they will compete in the Grand Finals at 1:00 p.m.
