GW Swimming Welcomes Bucknell for Home Opener on Saturday

WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's and women's swimming teams welcome Bucknell to the Charles E. Smith Center Pool for their home opener and first dual meet of the season on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Colonials recently competed in their first individual events of the season last weekend at a quad-meet at American against local opponents AU, Catholic and Loyola. Though the meet was not scored, both GW squads posted noteworthy performances while breaking multiple meet records in the process.
On the women's side, the Buff and Blue collected nine first-place finishes and eight second-place finishes throughout the weekend while senior Caroline Myers, junior Janica Lee and rookie Carly Whitmer combined to set four new meet records. Myers secured a new meet mark of 4:36.77 in the 400-yard individual medley while Lee set a meet record of 2:24.54 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Competing in the first individual events of her collegiate career, Whitmer recorded meet records in the 100-yard butterfly (57.53) and 200 fly (2:09.03) events. Additionally, Myers' first-place finishing time in the 1,650 free of 17:16.68 currently ranks 14th in all of NCAA Division I.
Junior transfer Goran Koprivnjak paced the men's team with four first-place finishes and two new meet records while GW tallied eight first- and second-place finishes throughout the two-day meet. Koprivnjak set meet records in the 100 fly (51.38) and 200 fly (1:54.62) in his first individual races with the Colonials.
GW and Bucknell have not met since the 2011-12 season when the Bison came away with victories on both sides.
