GW Women's Swimming Stumbles at Towson, 211-82

TOWSON, Md. - The George Washington women' swimming team fell to Towson, 211-82, on Saturday afternoon in its first road dual meet of the season at the Tigers' Burdick Pool.
Junior Caroline Myers paced the Buff and Blue on the afternoon with two first-place finishes, while sophomore Janica Lee took home a first and second place finish in her events.
Myers claimed top honors in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:18.16. She then took home third in the very next event, the 200-yard freestyle, in 1:57.70. Freshman Kally Vanderbilt followed Myers in fourth with a time of 1:58.44. The Oldsmar, Fla., native won the 400-yard individual medley as she touched the wall in 4:37.99.
Lee earned a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:25.39. Freshman Lauren Steagall took home second place in 2:29.58. The pair then finished in a close second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke as Lee clocked in at 1:08.04 followed by Steagall in 1:08.67.
In the 100-yard backstroke, junior Lindsay Moore clocked in at 1:00.67 for a third-place finish, just .06 seconds behind Towson's second-place finisher. Junior classmates Emily Kane and Chelsey Weatherford took home third and fourth in the 200-yard butterfly as Kane touched the wall in 2:16.42 and Weatherford finished in 2:19.39.
Junior Sloan Saunders took home third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.73 seconds, and sister Sydney Saunders finished fifth in 25.0. Sloan Saunders then earned a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.56 seconds. Sydney Saunders took home fourth with a time of 54.56, and junior Melissa Fernandez finished fifth in 55.01.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Sloan and Sydney Saunders, Lee and Myers finished second with a time of 3:36.34.
GW returns to the pool on Thursday, November 15 for the three-day Patriot Invitational at nearby George Mason.
