WASHINGTON, DC- Thomas Guncik has been named the assistant coach for the George Washington men's rowing program, GW head coach Mark Davis has announced. His primary responsibility will be coaching the freshman rowers. He will also play a major role in recruiting.

He had various responsibilities at Bates including orchestrating training sessions on the water, strength training on land and individual technique sessions in the pool and on ergometers.
"I am very excited to have Tom on board. He brings a strong level of rowing knowledge and passion for the sport" said Coach Davis. "He did an amazing job with the men's crews at Bates and I am confident that he will help our team accomplish our goals this season."
Guncik helped the Bates men's rowing team to their best performance in team history at the 2011 New England Rowing Championships (NERC). "I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to coach the George Washington University men's rowing team" said Guncik. "Coach Davis has a vision and plan I believe in and this is definitely a program ready to enter the top tier of collegiate rowing. I look forward to getting to work this fall and with the Colonial oarsmen in the months ahead."
A 2007 graduate of Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in history and political science, Guncik served as captain of the OSU Crew Club and rowed as a member of the Varsity Pair that finished in eighth place at the 2006 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship Regatta.
