BRIDGEPORT, PA - Women's water polo junior Allison Peotter and senior Charlotte Schou were named CWPA Southern Division Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, on Wednesday after leading George Washington to a 2-1 mark at the Colonials Invite over the weekend.
It marks the second time this season Peotter and Schou both captured the honors in the same week (Feb. 21), and is Peotter's CWPA-leading fourth Player of the Week award of the season.
Peotter totaled eight goals on 50 percent shooting, six assists, seven steals, seven ejections drawn and 11 swim-offs won in GW's 2-1 weekend. Peotter opened with four goals and three assists in a losing effort in a 13-11 defeat against Siena, added a goal, an assist and four steals in a win over Villanova, then went for three goals and two assists in a rout of Mercyhurst. Peotter became GW's career steals leader (170) and moved within an assist of the program's career mark (98) over the weekend.
Schou amassed 31 saves and five assists in posting a 2-1 record in goal over the weekend. Schou's marquee effort of the weekend came with 18 saves, including nine on man-advantage shots, and two assists in Sunday's 12-4 rout of Mercyhurst. With the 31 saves, Schou moved to a tie for second all-time at GW with 709 career saves, just 29 shy of the program mark.
In addition to the awards for Peotter and Schou, freshman Rachael Bentley was named to the CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week Honor Roll. She totaled five goals on 38 percent shooting, three assists, two ejections drawn and a steal in the three games. Two of Bentley's team-high three goals ignited a 9-0 run that propelled GW to a 13-5 victory over Villanova Saturday.
GW (5-12, 0-1 CWPA Southern Division) travels to Lewisburg, PA, on April 10 for a Top 10 showdown with No. 7 nationally ranked Michigan and a battle against the host Bucknell Bison.
