Two Swimmers Named to A-10 Academic All-Conference Team

WASHINGTON, DC--- George Washington swimmers Paola Leor and Alex Etz have been named to the Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Academic All-Conference Team, in voting conducted among the Conference's Sports Information Directors.
At the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championships, Leor led the women's squad in breaking three individual school records and was a member of three record-breaking relay teams. Leor broke GW records in the 50-yard freestyle (23.34), 100-yard butterfly (55.02), and the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.66). She also broke the 100 free (50.34) record earlier in the season at the George Mason Invitational.
Named to A-10 Academic All-Conference team for the second time, the senior accounting major with a 3.42 grade-point average swam the lead leg in the fourth-place 400-yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 50.34 of the team's overall time of 3:31.17. Leor also swam the lead leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:35.93) and the anchor leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:34.01).
For the men's squad, Etz helped the team to a fourth-place finish at the A-10 Championships, the best finish since the 2004-05 season. The sophomore swam the third leg (45.13) of the first-place 400-yard relay team (3:02.13). He also reached the podium in the 200-yard free relay (1:22.57), finishing third.
The sophomore psychology major with a 3.87 GPA collected key points for the men's squad in top-six finishes in the 100-yard free (fourth, 45.76), 100-yard backstroke (fourth, 50.81), the 200-yard medley relay (sixth, 23.39 of 1:32.26) and the 400-yard medley relay (fifth, 49.63 of 3:24.73).
