BRIDGEPORT, PA - George Washington sophomore attacker Allison Peotter and junior goalkeeper Charlotte Schou were named the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, after leading the Colonials to a near upset of defending league champion Maryland last week.
Peotter scored all three of her goals in the second half to help GW (7-11, 0-3 CWPA Southern Division) erase a two-goal deficit and force overtime in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to Maryland. She finished with a hat trick, three steals and four swim-offs won. The weekly award is Peotter's first of the season and fifth of her career, having earned one Player of the Week (3/24/09) and three Rookie of the Week (2/23/09, 3/2/09, 3/24/09) awards last season.
Peotter leads the Colonials in assists (26), steals (40) and swim-offs won (42) and is second on the team in goals (25) and points (51). She has totaled 74 goals and 61 assists for 135 points and 115 steals in 45 career games.
Schou, who was also named CWPA Defensive Player of the Week on March 30, turned away nine shots, had two steals and allowed the third-fewest goals in a game this season in the loss to the Terrapins. Schou now has 194 saves, a 8.06 goals-against average and .576 save percentage in 18 games this season.
GW returns to action at Princeton Saturday at 7:00 pm.
