Colonials Win George Cup for Second Straight Year

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington Men's Rowing team traveled to New Brunswick, NJ and came away with some favorable results under tough racing conditions. The Colonials won the Varsity Eight race beating both Georgetown and Rutgers in the process.
Defeating Georgetown carried some extra meaning for the Colonials rowers, as it clinched the George Cup awarded to the winner of the GW-Georgetown race. It is the second straight year the George Cup will reside on Foggy Bottom. The Colonials finished with a time of 6:35.1
The Second Varsity Eight also won their race against the same two schools in commanding fashion as second-place Georgetown finished 17 seconds behind the Colonials. The Colonials in this race finished with a time of 6:50.8.
George Washington's Varsity Four won its race again going away. They finished with a time of 7:48.0 and Rutgers finished with a time of 8:05.4. The only race the Colonials were unable to win was the Freshman Eight race where GW finished third.
The race was held in tough conditions with strong headwinds contributing to some slower times. It was the first race after a two-week layoff for the men's team after hosting the George Washington Invitational on April 9-10.
The Colonials take on Boston University next Saturday, May 1st in Boston, MA. It will be the final race for the Colonials before the EARC Eastern Sprints, which take place on Sunday, May 16th.
