BRIDGEPORT, PA - George Washington senior attack Marissa Stamler earned a share of the CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week Monday after totaling seven goals and three assists in the Colonials' final three games of the regular season.
In her final game at Smith Center Pool Sunday, Stamler led all players with four goals and five points as GW nearly upset Southern Division co-champion Princeton. She scored three of her four goals in the second half to help the Colonials close within two goals on three separate occasions in an eventual 9-7 loss to the Tigers.
Stamler began the week with a goal and an ejection drawn in a 16-7 loss at Maryland Friday, then added two goals, two assists and a field block in a 12-6 loss to No. 7 Michigan Saturday. Her field block against the Wolverines pushed her into first all-time at GW with 23.
The co-Player of the Week award is Stamler's second of the season and third of her career. She split this week's award with Bucknell's Kandis Canonica.
She leads GW with 47 goals and 70 points this season. In 104 career games, Stamler is fourth all-time at GW with 203 points and fifth with 135 goals and 68 assists.
No. 4 seed GW (7-15, 0-6) will face top-seeded Bucknell (13-9, 5-1) in the CWPA Southern Division Championship at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool Saturday at 4:00 pm.
