BRIDGEPORT, PA - George Washington junior goalkeeper Charlotte Schou was named Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday after averaging 17 saves to help the Colonials split two games last week.
Schou totaled 34 saves, including a career-high 21 stops in a 9-7 victory over Villanova Friday, to earn her first CWPA weekly award and the program's first Defensive Player of the Week award, which was created for the 2010 season. Schou's 21 blocks were the most for a GW goalkeeper since Julie Jacoby equaled her own school-record of 22 stops against Harvard on March 1, 2008. Schou also made 13 saves in GW's 10-7 loss at Southern Division leader Bucknell Saturday.
Schou has started all 17 games for the Colonials and amassed 174 saves, a total which ranks among the national leaders. She also ranks third in program history with 512 career saves.
GW (7-10, 0-2 CWPA Southern Division) returns to Smith Center Pool Wednesday to host Maryland in Southern Division action at 7:00 pm
