BRIDGEPORT, PA - George Washington senior attack Marissa Stamler was named Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Player of the Week Tuesday after scoring 24 goals during the Colonials' seven-game West Coast trip last week.
Stamler totaled 24 goals on 47 percent shooting, 11 ejections drawn, six steals and four assists in helping GW to a 4-3 mark during its annual spring break trip to California.
A CWPA All-South Second Team selection in each of the last two seasons, Stamler led GW in scoring in 5-of-7 games and scored three-or-more goals in all but one contest last week, highlighted by a six-goal, seven-point effort in a 9-7 victory over CWPA Division III No. 6 Whittier. She also had four goals and four ejections drawn against Concordia (CA) and four goals against Fresno Pacific.
The Player of the Week award is the second of Stamler's career, having previously won the honor March 17, 2008.
With her 24 goals, Stamler climbed to fifth all-time at GW with 123 career goals and is now five points shy of entering the program's Top 5, having amassed 181 points in 97 career games (123g/58a).
GW (6-9, 0-1 CWPA Southern Division) travels to Villanova, PA, Friday to face the Wildcats before resuming CWPA Southern Division play at Bucknell Saturday.
