BUFFALO, NY -- The George Washington men's and women's swim teams swam the first day of the 2010 Atlantic 10 Swimming Championships, finishing the day just on the heels of the middle of the scores.
With two relay events with men's one-meter diving in the first day, the Colonials women's swim team finished seventh in the 200-yard medley relay. Sophomore Isabel Tawney, senior Katrina Timlin and juniors Sarah Beggs and Paola Leor teamed up to post a time of 1:47.06, shaving more than three seconds from the time this same group posted against George Mason on Jan. 31 (1:51.18).
The men's 200-yard medley relay team of senior Cascade Tuholske, junior Andrew Maguire, freshman Zach Peart and sophomore Marshall Seedorff also cut time from their race against Howard (1:37.89) to post a time of 1:35.12.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the men's all-freshman relay team finished sixth with a time of 6:52.84. Niklas Glenesk, Jim Coleman, Alex Etz and Luke Quimby showed that GW men's swimming have a bright future after they gain more experience at the conference meet.
The Championships continue Thursday morning with trials at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m. Fans can follow results live by going to the Atlantic 10 website here.
