GW Swimmer Attends Presidential Town Hall Meeting at GW

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University freshman swimmer Sloan Saunders was chosen to be one of several first-year GW student voters to attend Tuesday's "Moving America Forward" town hall with President Barack Obama at the university's Marvin Center.
Saunders, and her fellow GW swimmers, kicked off the 2010-11 season at the Potomac Relays Oct. 2. The men's squad took third out of seven competing area teams, while the women's squad placed fourth. Sloan and her sister Sydney teamed up with fellow freshman Taylor Cole and senior Paola Leor in the 500-yard freestyle relay, finishing third with a time of 4:45.46.
The swim team will next compete on Friday, Oct 15, at Catholic with American, beginning at 5:00 p.m. and all day on Saturday, Oct. 16 at American with Catholic.
Q & A with Sloan Saunders about attending the Town Hall meeting, Tues., Oct. 12, 2010
Q. How did you get chosen to attend and participate in the Town Hall? What did you get to do?
Sloan: I was contacted by Dean of Freshmen Helen Cannaday Saulny to attend and it wasn't until I arrived that I found out I would be personally greeting the President himself! It was definitely an experience to remember.
Q. Was the event what you expected?
Sloan: The event turned out to be a lot more than I expected in that I actually got to personally meet the President. I will never forget this.
Q. Do you feel better informed about voting in your first national election?
Sloan: I definitely feel better informed. I'm really excited to vote this year. It's my first time voting so this will be an experience.
Q. What was your favorite part of the event?
Sloan: Meeting President Obama. Let's face it, it was pretty cool. But the whole experience was amazing. I enjoyed myself.
