WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's water polo team closed within 6-4 early in the fourth quarter, but Bucknell scored the final five goals of the game to knock off the Colonials, 11-6, in CWPA Southern Division action at Smith Center Pool Thursday night.
Sophomore goalkeeper Charlotte Schou matched a career high with 15 saves, her third consecutive game with double-digit saves, but it wasn't enough to help the Colonials snap a 17-game slide against the Bison.
GW (2-8, 0-3 CWPA Southern Division) was tied 1-1 after a quarter, trailed 4-2 at the break and 6-3 after three periods, but narrowed its deficit to two goals with 7:47 remaining. Bucknell (7-8, 1-1) responded with five unanswered goals over the next six minutes to pull away.
Junior Sarah Fitch led the attack with two goals, followed by one goal apiece from juniors Marissa Stamler and Tara Sullivan and freshmen Allison Peotter and Megan Walker.
The Colonial begin a week-long trip to the West Coast next weekend at the Claremont Convergence in Claremont, CA. GW opens the four-game event with the host Athenas next Saturday, March 14, at 10:20 am PT.
