GW Coach Karl Hobbs
Can you explain what happened on the technical foul?
"We were subbing in our guy for the shooter, and that's all I know. And for some reason, it didn't happen."
What do you take away from this game?
"A loss. And again, this is a young basketball team without a lot of experience. We're going through those growth pains when you're young. We struggling with finishing games. We've had three games in the league, and all three have ended in the same fashion."
Is it tough having three straight losses?
"It's difficult because you want to be rewarded for the hard work. At the end of the day, we have to take wins. Nobody's giving us wins. We have to keep getting better, keep improving, and we have to be able to finish games at the end."
Is this team better than their record?
"That's a tough question. Your record is who you are. With that being said, our record reflects who we are. That's a hard statement, but it is what it is. But again, this is a rebuilding situation. I don't mind rebuilding. That's just the situation you find yourself in, and you have to get through it."
GW senior F Wynton Witherspoon
What was the situation with the technical foul?
"I saw the ball go in, and everybody had a man, but I saw somebody didn't have a man but everbody was covered. I said `aw man, we have six people on the court. I've got to get off the court.' So I jumped over the chairs, but I didn't do it in time."
Considering how well you played in this game, how devastating was it to lose?
"It's always devastating to lose, whether it's a close loss or not. It's extra tough at home. But we have another home game Sunday at two, so we have to come back and keep fighting."
Are you encouraged by the way the team is playing?
"We can play with anybody. It's just about finishing games. We've been in the lead the last couple of games. We've been leading going into the last TV timeout. We're just not finishing them."
Dayton Coach Brian Gregory
When GW had the last possession, did you have any flashbacks to last year?
"For the last two days all I could think of was how TJ Thompson hit one against us, Carl Elliott hit one against us, last year Witherspoon hit the one against us. Gracioius, enough is enough. So when [Aaron Ware] shot that one from the corner, I could tell it was going to be long, but sometimes you lose on the second shot...But that last possession, I wasn't feeling so good. I've been down that road too many times."
You're already 17-2; what more do you have to do to solidify your position in the NCAA tournament?
"It's January 22nd, I am not talking about the tournament. We play St. Bonaventure Sunday at 2. I care about getting home safely tonight, and getting ready for practice tomorrow. As a younger coach, I kept up with that...But we can't worry about that. We need to win the next game, and we need to keep getting better."
