BRIDGEPORT, PA - George Washington women's water polo sophomore Marissa Stamler was named to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Southern Division Second Team, the league announced Friday.
Stamler, a driver, led GW with 31 goals, nine assists and 40 points this season. Stamler also ranked third on the team with 31 ejections drawn and fourth on the team with 21 steals.
It marks the ninth consecutive season GW has placed at least one player on the CWPA All-South Second Team. Stamler is the first GW sophomore to receive CWPA All-South honors since Morgan Hooker was voted to the second team in 2005.
GW eclipsed its 2007 win total with seven victories in 2008 - Villanova (twice), Siena, Grove City, Fresno Pacific, Occidental and Macalester. The Colonials lose four seniors, but return 12 letterwinners for the 2009 season.
