Women's Water Polo Drops Two on Saturday

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's water polo team dropped both its games Saturday, falling to No. 11 Michigan in College Park, MD, in the afternoon and CWPA Southern Division leader Bucknell at Charles E. Smith Center Pool Saturday night.
GW (7-18, 0-5 CWPA Southern Division) plays its final home game of the season Sunday at 11:30 am, against league foe Princeton. The Colonials will honor seniors Julie Jacoby, Greta Pedraza, Sarah Stimson and Rebecca Stein for their final home game.
In Saturday's late game, GW erased an early two-goal deficit to even the game at 2-2 in the first quarter. Bucknell tallied three unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead and extended the margin to 7-3 by halftime.
The Colonials would only get as close as four goals, 8-4, on freshman Melissa Sesana's goal with 3:49 left in the third quarter. The Bison went on another 3-0 run to put the game away. Bucknell improved to 23-6 overall and league-best 4-1 in CWPA Southern Division play.
Six different players scored for the Colonials. Senior goalkeeper Julie Jacoby made six saves, while freshman Charlotte Schou had one stop in fourth-quarter action. Shana Palencia led the Bison with three goals.
GW converted just 1-of-9 man-up opportunities in the loss.
In Saturday's early game, GW didn't manage a goal in a 13-0 loss to nationally ranked Michigan (25-9). Jacoby had six saves and Schou made three against the Wolverines.
