
Women's Water Polo Tames Wildcats in Season Opener

VILLANOVA, PA - Sophomore Emily Chereson scored a game-high four goals to help the George Washington women's water polo team to a season-opening 14-7 victory at Villanova Friday night.
Senior goalkeeper Julie Jacoby made eight saves before giving way to freshman Charlotte Schou late in the game. Schou finished with two saves in her collegiate debut.
GW (1-0) broke open a 5-3 halftime lead with a six-goal third period to lead 11-5 after 24 minutes of play. Villanova scored no more than two goals in any period, while the Colonials racked up nine tallies in the second half for the 14-7 victory.
Sophomore Tara Sullivan recorded a hat trick, followed by two goals each from sophomore Marissa Stamler and rookie Melissa Sesana.
GW will play four games in the next two days at the Maryland Invitational in College Park, MD. On Saturday, the Colonials face Harvard at 2:20 pm and No. 15 Michigan at 7:00 pm. On Sunday, GW takes on No. 6 San Diego State at 11:30 am before rounding out the Invitational with Siena at 3:00 pm.
