Fuchs, Tawney Pace Women's Swimming at ODU

NORFOLK, VA -- GW senior Lauren Fuchs and freshman Isabel Tawney combined for four second-place finishes to lead the GW women's swimming team in a dual meet Saturday afternoon against Old Dominion. The teams swam at Norfolk State's pool due to construction on the new recreational facility at Old Dominion.
The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming teams defeated George Washington over the weekend. The Old Dominion women's squad won all 13 events of its events en-route to a 156-102 victory over the Colonials. On the men's side, the Monarchs won, 159-109, over George Washington. The ODU men's team won 10 of the 13 events.
The Colonials' roster was hampered by a variety of injuries and illnesses and several members of the team did not make the trip to Norfolk.
There were no victories on the women's side but there were numerous second-place finishes from both the GW men and women. Tawney took second in both the 50-yd backstroke (:27.24) and in the 100-yd backstroke (1:03.06). Fuchs duplicated Tawney's finishes in both the 50-yd breaststroke (:32.59) and in the 100-yd breaststroke (1:11.19).
Junior Katrina Timlin was second in the 100-yd freestyle (:56.30) while Sarah Richards was second in the 500-yd freestyle (5:26.98). Senior Jessica Miga took second place in the 50-yd butterfly (:27.34) and junior Emily Leik was second in the 200-yd IM (2:16.72).
Next up for the Colonials is the winter training trip to Ponce, Puerto Rico from, Jan. 2-10. Following the training trip, GW competes Friday-Saturday, Jan. 16-17, at Rhode Island Invitational in Kingston, RI.
