GW Rebounds With 77-56 Victory Over Princeton

WASHINGTON, DC - Senior Jessica Adair led four double-digit scorers with 18 points and seven rebounds to help the George Washington women's basketball team to a 77-56 victory over Princeton Sunday at Charles E. Smith Center.
GW (6-4) used a 20-6 run over the final 5:26 to post the 21-point victory and bounce back from Friday's 65-51 loss to 10th-ranked Auburn.
Jessica Adair's 18 points came on 8-of-9 shooting and senior Antelia Parrish added 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. With her seven rebounds, Adair (1,176 points/602 rebounds) became the 10th player in GW history to record at least 600 points and 600 rebounds in a career.
Senior Yolanda Lavender, who sat out the fall semester after transferring from Wake Forest midway through the 2007-08 season, got the start in her first appearance with the Colonials. Lavender finished in double figures with 12 points despite shooting just 3-of-12 from the field, but added six assists and three steals versus only one turnover in a solid debut. Freshman Sara Mostafa had her best outing as a collegian, chipping in 10 points, six rebounds and a steal in 18 minutes off the bench.
Princeton (4-7) stayed close through the opening 16 minutes and led 23-22 on Lauren Edwards' three-pointer with 4:07 left in the first half.
Mostafa converted two of her game-high six free throws to give GW the lead for good at 24-23 with 3:55 to play in the period. The foul shots ignited an 18-4 run spanning both halves to help the Colonials grab a 40-27 edge with 18:15 remaining.
The Tigers got as close as seven points on three separate occasions over the final 12 minutes, the last on Addie Micir's sixth 3-pointer of the game to make it 57-50 with 5:26 to play.
GW responded by hitting its next seven shots during the decisive 20-6 spurt, with five points apiece from Parrish and Lavender, while limiting Princeton to just two field goals in the final five minutes.
The Colonials committed a season-low 12 turnovers and shot 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the field, including 51.6 percent (16-of-31) in the second half, and a season-best 81.8 percent (18-of-22) from the foul line.
Micir finished with 18 points and six assists for the Tigers, followed by 12 points from Devona Allgood and 11 from Edwards.
The Colonials played without seniors Jazmine Adair (shoulder) and Lisa Steele (ankle) and freshman Tara Booker (concussion), all of whom sat out due to injury.
GW concludes its program-record seven-game homestand Friday, Dec. 27, against Loyola (MD). Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
