CHERRY HILL, NJ - The George Washington Men's Rowing Team competed this past weekend at the 105th IRA National Championships in Cherry Hill, NJ. The Colonials fielded 5 crews in this prestigious regatta: Varsity Eight, 2nd Varsity Eight, Freshman Eight, Freshman Four, and Open Four. All five GW crews advanced to Saturday's finals, with command performances across all levels.
In the Ten Eyck Award team points standings, GW ended up ranked 19th in the country (the University of Washington took home the trophy). For the Clayton Chapman Award for most improved team, the Colonials were eclipsed only by Cornell University.
"This has been a tremendous, though very challenging, season for us," said Head Coach Greg Myhr. "We're beginning to see some returns on an enormous volume of dedicated hard work by our university, our administration, and most importantly, by our athletes themselves - it's a constant thrill and privilege to be a part of this program. Every team we compete against is well supported, well coached, and incredibly driven. While it will take everything we can do as well as some luck to continue our climb, it's precisely that challenge that makes this endeavor so worthwhile - I really can't wait to get the 2007-08 season started."
