Men's Rowing Takes 13th at 2007 Eastern Sprints

WORCESTER, MA - The George Washington University Men's Rowing Team competed at the 2007 Eastern Sprints Championships last Sunday, May 13. The Eastern Sprints is the league championships for the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges, which the Colonials were admitted into this year. GW competed in the varsity, 2nd varsity, freshman, and 2nd freshman heavyweight eights events.
While the 2nd freshman crew did not advance to the finals, the varsity, 2nd varsity, and freshman eights all competed in the 3rd level finals of their events. The varsity eight won their final in a photo finish over fellow newcomer Holy Cross, finishing a mere .14 of a second in front of the Crusaders. The freshman eight also won their final, 2.3 seconds ahead of Rutgers. The Colonials 2nd varsity eight finished in 2nd place in their final, 4.3 seconds behind Boston University but again narrowly edging 3rd place Holy Cross by .2 of a second.
"This is an incredibly competitive league," said Head Coach Greg Myhr. "There are 18 excellent heavyweight teams at this regatta, and for where we are right now, and finishing ahead of any of them is something we're proud of. Ultimately, we hope to build GW to the point where it will be realistic to think about Grand Finals and medals, but for our first year in the conference, our oarsmen acquitted themselves nicely."
