REDWOOD CITY, CA - #20 George Washington University Men's Rowing Team dropped three races to ranked opponents this weekend at Stanford University's 5th Annual Windermere Invitational Rowing Classic.
The Colonials raced both 1st and 2nd varsity eights against #2 Stanford, #11 Trinity, and #19 Oregon State. GW's tightest race for both crews came against Oregon State, whom the Colonials held leads in both events, only to be bested by a narrow margin each time. "The conditions Saturday afternoon were difficult, especially in the 2nd 1000m of the course," said Head Coach Greg Myhr. "While we struggled a bit, Oregon State showed impressive poise and ability. They really did a nice job."
Myhr expressed disappointment, but no surprise at the Colonials' weekend results. "Stanford University and Windermere Real Estate run one of the best regattas out there, and we were very fortunate to have had the opportunity to participate. Coming out here, we knew we were up against some of the best teams in the country, which was a tremendous experience for us. I truly believe that this exposure will prove to be very helpful as we continue our preparation for the Eastern Sprints and IRA National Championships."
Next Up for the Colonials Men's Rowing Team is a trial race against Virginia and Delaware on the Anacostia River in Washington, DC on April 28th.
