LEWISBURG, PA - The George Washington women's water polo team concluded its regular season with a pair of CWPA Southern Division losses to No. 16 Princeton, 10-7, and host Bucknell, 13-7, in Lewisburg, PA, on Saturday.
GW (6-19, 0-6 CWPA) played solid against the 16th-ranked Tigers in Saturday's opener, but couldn't comeback from a six-goal, third-quarter deficit. After a 2-2 first quarter, Princeton led 6-2 at the break and ran up six unanswered goals to take an 8-2 lead midway through the third period. The Colonials hung tough and outscored the Tigers 5-2 over the final 12 minutes for the final margin.
Head coach Scott Reed called GW's performance a "team effort," in which no player scored more than one goal. Junior goalkeeper Julie Jacoby made 15 saves, but the Colonials' offense went 3-of-14 on man-up opportunities and failed to convert a penalty shot.
In Saturday's finale, GW fell behind 5-0 after eight minutes and 7-2 at halftime en route to a 13-7 loss to the host Bison. Senior Morgan Hooker, who set the program record for goals in a career on March 31, led the offense with two goals. Jacoby left at the beginning of the third period with an injury and sophomore Luciana Maggiolo played well in net.
Fourth-seeded GW will face top-seeded Princeton to open the CWPA Southern Championships on April 21. The University of Maryland will play host to the event.
