PRINCETON, NJ - The George Washington University men's rowing team opened the spring racing season this past Saturday in Princeton, NJ, trialing as a guest competitor in the Maxwell Stevenson Cup between Columbia University and the US Naval Academy. This also was GW's debut in the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC). Racing in near perfect conditions on Lake Carnegie, the Colonials were bested by the competition in all four events.
"Navy and Columbia, like all of the teams in this league, are strong and very well coached. Our approach, simply from a standpoint of reality, is to do what we can to be in these constests and at a minimum, add to the value of the racing for all teams involved. To some extent, our freshmen crews and second varsity did that today - unfortunately, our varsity did not. It's early season for us, and we have many improvements to be made. However, it's sometimes easy to forget that it's early season for everyone, and our competitors will be getting faster as well said Head Coach Greg Myhr."
The season picks up steam this coming Saturday, March 31, as the Colonials head to Philadelphia to race perennial powerhouse, the University of Pennsylvania, on the Schuylkill River. Races are scheduled to run from 9:00 to 11:00 AM.
