WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University women's swimming & diving team was edged by Old Dominion 157-124 on Saturday afternoon at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center. Junior Jessica Miga earned two victories while fellow junior Ariana Berdini and freshman Sarah Landry also picked up wins on the day.
Miga swept the sprint freestyle events for the Colonials, taking the 50-yard in 25.50 and 100-yard in 54.94. The native of Barneveld, NY also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.00 and anchored the victorious 400-yard freestyle relay team along with freshman Sarah Beggs, junior Luciana Maggiolo and sophomore Emily Leik.
Berdini won her specialty event, the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.12 while Landry won the one-meter dive, accumulating 143.10 points in her six dives.
Leik recorded a pair of second place finishes, one in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.58) while Beggs and freshman Caitlin Brewer took third and fourth in 2:15.75 and 2:18.96, respectively. Leik also finished second in the 200-yard IM in 2:13.35.
Beggs also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.94 with Brewer just behind in 1:03.40, taking third.
Junior Lauren Fuchs added a second and third place finish for GW. Out of E. Setauket, NY, Fuchs took second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:27.07 and third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.12.
The Colonials will be off for over a month before their next meet at the Rhode Island Invitational on January 11 and 12, 2008.
