Washington, DC - The women's swimming & diving team opened their 2007-08 season tonight at the Potomac Relays hosted by American University. The meet consisted of five local teams, competing in several different relay events that are not seen throughout the season, but some quite familiar. Highlighted by a first place finish in the 300-yard breaststroke relay, the women's squad finished third in the team standings behind Navy and George Mason, while beating out Georgetown and Mary Washington.
The lineup of freshman Lesley Pringle, and juniors Lauren Fuchs and Ariana Berdini led the 300-yard breaststroke relay from start to finish earning 40 points for the Colonials. Pringle made her collegiate debut to start the race and got GW off to a quick start.
The Colonials also had two teams finish second in their respective relays.
Freshman Paola Leor and Noelle Miesfeld also made their collegiate debuts, and teamed with senior Molly Moss to take second in the 300-yard butterfly relay.
Leor was also a member of a second place finishing 200-yard medley relay team along with Berdini, and sophomores Emily Leik and Katrina Timlin.
The women's swimming & diving team will be in action next Saturday, as they travel to Annapolis, MD to compete against Navy and Loyola.
