WOODBRIDGE, VA - The George Washington Men's Rowing team opened their 2007-08 season this past weekend at the Occoquan Chase and were highlighted by a victory in the Open Four event. Two other boats in the Open Four placed in the top seven in the event.
GW finished second to Virginia in the Open Men's Eight while the Colonials' Second Eight took fifth. Virginia's Second Eight took third, followed by George Mason in fourth.
"We have the deepest squad that we have had in years here at GW, but we apparently we have yet to develop a top end," said Head Coach Greg Myhr. "We're fortunate in that in an early season event like this, we had the opportunity to knock heads against such quality competition like Virginia. I'd like to think we have the resources to close the gap with UVa, but it will be a challenge."
GW's novice team, in their first collegiate races ever, finished 5th in the Collegiate Novice Eights event, and 4th and 5th in the Collegiate Novice Fours.
Men's Rowing's next competition will be The Head of the Charles on October 21, in Boston, MA.
