
GW's Maureece Rice Named A-10 Co-Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- George Washington's Maureece Rice has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Player of the Week for men's basketball the league office announced Sunday. It marks Rice's first A-10 weekly honor this season. He shares this week's honor with St. Bonaventure's Zarryon Fereti.
Rice averaged 20 points and eight rebounds per game in GW's two victories this week. He matched his career high with 23 points in GW's pulsating come-from-behind 74-65 victory over Marshall Saturday.
The junior guard from Philadelphia shot 8-12 from the field and added 10 rebounds to key the Colonials' rally from a 21-point deficit against the Thundering Herd for his second career double-double, both this season.
In GW's A-10 opener against Fordham Jan. 3, Rice scored a game-high 17 points with a team-high six rebounds and three steals to help the Colonials to the 70-59 victory.
Rice's stats for the week: 2 games, 40 points on 16-28 FGs (.571), 3-9 3FGs (.333), 5-6 FTs (.833), 16 rebounds (4 offensive, 12 defensive), 6 assists, 9 turnovers, 5 steals in 71 total minutes.
GW (10-3, 1-0 A-10) travels to Amherst, MA, Wednesday to face the UMass Minutemen (11-4, 1-0) in a battle of first-place teams at 7:00 p.m.
