WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University men's and women's rowing teams will be participating in Row for Humanity, a charity event held to support Habitat for Humanity. The event takes place Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Marvin Center (800 21st St., NW) and in the Ivory Tower (616 23rd St., NW.)
The team encourages all members of the George Washington community to join in support of the fundraiser. The rowers will row for one-hour intervals, a feat which is physically and mentally challenging.
George Washington University and other universities and high schools around the country are participating in Row for Humanity to help their local chapters of Habitat for Humanity generate enough money to continue building homes for their communities. Last year, rowing teams from around the nation contributed more than 30,000 to their local Habitat for Humanity chapters. The team's goal is to raise $20,000. A portion of the money will go toward building a Habitat for Humanity house and the athletes will spend one day at a local DC Habitat building site.
Donations will be accepted at the event or can be sent to GW Row for Humanity, 600 22nd Street, NW, Washington, DC 20052. Make checks payable to: GW Row for Humanity.
The women's rowing team will be back in the water of the Potomac River on Saturday, March 24, taking on North Carolina. That same day, the men's rowing team will travel to Mercer County, NJ to take on Columbia and Navy.
