Emily Leik Carries Colonials at URI Invitational

KINGSTON, RI - The George Washington University women's swimming & diving team returned from winter break to compete in the Rhode Island Invitational against conference rivals Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and La Salle this past weekend. Emily Leik was the lone Colonial to take home an individual title, the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.69). Leik also finished second in the 200-yard IM (2:14.90), and fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.31).
Jessica Miga also captured three top-five finishes while placing third in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle in 25.68 and 55.66 respectively. Jessica also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.38.
Ariana Berdini, Lauren Fuchs, Shannon Ma, and Cissey Ye all placed in the top five in two events apiece. Berdini took second in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke in 1:09.41 and 2:31.41. Fuchs took third in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:31.94, and fifth in the 400-yard IM in 4:52.14. Ma placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.81, and fourth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.99. Ye took fifth in the distance events in 5:19.79 and 11:00.70 respectively.
Katrina Timlin, Jen Cohn, and Molly Moss also earned top-five finishes. Timlin placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.75, while Cohn and Moss placed fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.97) and 200-yard butterfly (2:20.01) respectively.
The women also rounded out a successful two-day invitational with a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:55.34.
The Colonials return to action at home on Sunday, Jan. 21 at 12:00 pm to take on the George Mason Patriots.
