FARMVILLE, VA - The George Washington men's soccer team held a 13-10 advantage in shots, but failed to capitalize on any of its opportunities in a 2-0 defeat at Longwood on Wednesday evening.
GW allowed two goals in a span of 3:28 early in the second half to fall to 1-2 on the season. This was just the third match of the season for the Colonials and the first since their 2-0 win versus Howard in the DC College Cup on August 27.
Longwood's (1-4) Brian Germain scored the game-winning goal at the 52:59 mark on an assist from Max Griessbach. Griessbach tacked on an insurance goal just over three minutes later to guide the Lancers to their first victory of the season.
GW junior goalkeeper Greg Yahr made four saves in the loss. Longwood goalie Brandt Youmans turned away five of the Colonials' six shots on goal.
Junior Abimbola Pedro and freshman Andrew Kroculick led the GW attack with a team-high two shots on target apiece.
The Colonials open the home portion of their schedule against Delaware at Mount Vernon Athletics Complex on Saturday, September 9. Kick-off is slated for 1:00 pm.
