Men's Rowing Varsity 8 Defeats Gonzaga Saturday

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington men's rowing crews took to the Potomac one last time this season to race Gonzaga and the varsity eight breezed past the Gonzaga eight, manned by both varsity and freshmen rowers, by nearly eight seconds Saturday morning.
GW completed the 2,000-meter course in 5:47.3 benefitting from a slight tail current. The teams used floating starts. Gonzaga's composite eight was made up of their varsity four and included four oarsmen from their freshman eight. The remaining Gonzaga freshman eight oarsmen rowed again in their freshman four. GW's varsity four was the stern four of their varsity eight. Race order was F8, V4, O/F 4s, V8.
"Gonzaga University has an excellent rowing program, and I'm thrilled they made the effort to come out here as a tune-up race for next week's IRA national championship," GW head coach Greg Myhr said. "I feel certain that this was beneficial for both squads."
The Colonials' close out the season on June 1-3, at the IRA National Championships on the Cooper River in Camden, NJ.
