PRINCETON, NJ - The George Washington University women's water polo team competed this past weekend at the Princeton Invitational, Feb. 17-19, at the Tigers' DeNunzio Pool. The Colonials were led offensively by junior Morgan Hooker (Woodland Hills, CA) and sophomore Kathryn Shehan (Chicago, IL), but dropped all four of their contests to fall to 2-4 on the season.
GW opened the tournament on Friday against Brown and fell 14-6. Hooker notched three goals to lead the Colonials' effort, while junior Jenna Burnett (Lake Forest, CA), sophomore Greta Pedraza (Miami, FL) and freshman Amy Moren (Burbank, CA) each scored a goal apiece. Senior Amy Heinemann (N. Miami Beach, FL) recorded nine saves in goal.
On Saturday, GW fell 8-2 to Harvard in its first game, followed by a 12-3 setback against Wagner in game two. Shehan and Moren scored a goal each versus Harvard and Wagner, while sophomore goalie Julie Jacoby (Coral Gables, FL) combined to record 14 saves in the two contests.
In its final game on Sunday, GW was edged 10-8 by Marist. Hooker, Burnett, Moren and Shehan each scored two goals apiece to pace the Colonials, but Marist took advantage of GW's miscues and scored six of their 10 goals on extra-man opportunities.
The Colonials (2-4) return to action when they travel to Lewisburg, PA, for the Bucknell Invite, Friday, Feb. 24 through Sunday, Feb. 26.
