PHILADELPHIA, PA - Junior Greg McKay scored his second goal of the season, but it wasn't enough as the George Washington men's soccer team dropped its season finale, 2-1, at Atlantic 10 rival La Salle on Sunday.
GW closes the 2006 season with a 5-9-3 overall record, 2-5-2 mark in the A-10.
McKay knotted the match at 1-1 in the 10th minute on assists from junior Thomas Stuber and sophomore David Leon. Stuber paced the Colonials this season with 15 points on six goals and three assists, while Leon led the team with five assists.
La Salle's (7-9-2, 3-5-1 A-10) Jim Davis scored a goal in each half, including the game-winner in the 46th minute. Davis got the Explorers on the board in the fourth minute via an assist from Brian Barry, then tallied the deciding goal 34 seconds into the second half from Jeff Spiker.
Junior goalkeeper Greg Yahr made five saves on nine shots faced to up his season total to 78 and three-year career total to 100. Dan Pfeiffer stopped two of GW's six shots.
GW seniors Jeremiah Burke and Joseph Siegel made starts in their final collegiate match. The Colonials will return 24 players from this fall's roster for the 2007 season.
