GW Swimming Completes Day One at Fall Invite

Washington, DC - The George Washington men's and women's swimming & diving teams traveled to cross-town rival Catholic University Friday night, to take on American University and the host Cardinals in day one of a two day meet. Although there was not a score calculated for tonight's met, the Colonials have several notable performers which should set them up for a solid performance tomorrow.
Senior Jeff Cohn sand Freshman Cascade Tuholske both took individual events on the day. Cohn won the 500-yard freestyle coming from behind with a spectacular last 100-yard to take the outright lead and the victory in 4:56.88. Cohn also took seventh in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.52. Tuholske took the 200-yard IM in 2:03.60 finishing just ahead of sophomore Tom Pullen who finished second in 2:03.81. The men dominated the 200-yard IM placing five in the top seven with freshmen Rick Rogers and Stephen Cosme taking fifth and sixth and senior Jonathan Sabin in seventh along with Tuholske and Pullen leading the way. Rogers also took third in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.80.
Freshman Emily Leik claimed second in the 200-yard IM in 2:14.88. Sophomore Lauren Fuchs and junior Molly Moss followed Leik finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Sophomore Luciana Maggiolo hit the wall shortly after in seventh. Maggiolo also claimed sixth place in the 50-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Jessica Miga also turned in a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.99. Senior Shannon Ma finished right behind Miga in third in 26.20. Sophomore Laura Myers came in shortly after in fifth place. Miga also turned in a fifth place finish in the 500-yard freestyle winning her heat in 5:25.05.
Senior Dan Mahoney also had a solid performance in the 50-yard freestyle taking sixth in 23.46.
The second half of tonight's meet will be held at American University tomorrow with the first session beginning at 10:00 am, and the second session at 3:00 pm.
