
Colonials Host Three League Foes this Weekend

WASHINGTON, DC - WASHINGTON, DC - The GW women's water polo team (10-11, 3-2 CWPA Southern) will host three Southern Division opponents on April 9-10 at the Charles E. Smith Athletics Center Pool. The Colonials will play Salem International at 10:00 a.m. on April 9 and will take on No. 15 Princeton at 1:30 p.m. On Sunday, April 10, the Colonials will host Bucknell at 11:00 a.m.
The Colonials are coming off an 0-3 performance at the ECAC Championship on April 2-3. GW fell to Villanova on Sunday, April 3 in the seventh place match and finished eighth of eight teams.
Sophomore Morgan Hooker leads GW with 33 goals scored, which ranks 34th in the nation. Junior goalkeeper Amy Heinemann is 15th in the country with 143 saves.
Salem International enters the weekend 0-4 in league play and the Tigers lost their only meeting against the Colonials this season, 19-9, on Feb. 26 at the Maryland Invitational.
Princeton, ranked 15th in the latest national poll, is 21-7 overall and is unbeaten in league competition (5-0). The Tigers won the eight-team ECAC Championship last weekend with a triumph over Hartwick. Elyse Colgan is nation's leading scorer with 68 goals and a 2.4 goals per game average. Princeton goalkeeper Natalie Kim is averaging 7.0 saves per game this season and has 146 stops on the year. The Tigers defeated GW, 8-4, at the Bucknell Invitational on Feb. 20 in the only other meeting between the two squads this season.
Bucknell is coming off a fifth-place finish at the ECAC Championship, which is tied for its best showing ever at the event. The Bison are 17-6 overall and 3-2 in CWPA Southern Division action. Goalkeeper Mandy Bynum ranks sixth in the nation in saves with 174 and the Bison have two players ranked in the top 25 in the country in goals scored. Meg Blitzer is ninth with 45 and freshman Meagan Gins is 23rd with 39. The Bison and Colonials have hooked up twice this season with Bucknell winning both pairings. The Bison defeated GW, 12-8, at the Bucknell Invitational on Feb. 18 and 9-5 at the ECAC Championship on April 2.
