GW Competes at CWPA Southern Championship This Weekend

WASHINGTON, DC - The GW women's water polo team (11-13, 4-4 CWPA Southern) is seeded third for this weekend's CWPA Southern Championship in Lewisburg, PA. The Colonials will play the tournament's host and second seed, Bucknell, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 23 in their opening match.
The Colonials are seeking a bid to next weekend's CWPA Eastern Championship in Bloomington, IN. The top two finishers at the Southern Championship automatically qualify for the Eastern Championship. There are also two at-large bids at stake for next weekend's event.
Princeton is the top seed for the Southern Championship, followed by Bucknell, GW, Maryland and Salem International.
The Colonials will be without top scorer Morgan Hooker against the Bison. She is out with an injury, however GW still has plenty of scoring in sophomore Jenna Burnett (33 goals) and senior captain Kendra Shanley (27 goals).
Junior goalkeeper Amy Heinemann ranks fourth on GW's single-season saves ledger with 156 stops so far this year.
The Colonials are 0-3 against Bucknell this season and they are 13-7 against the Bison all-time.
Bucknell is 20-8 this season and has a league record of 6-2. Meg Blitzer leads the squad with 77 points and 58 goals. Goalkeeper Mandy Bynum has 191 saves.
