Women's Lacrosse Wins Inaugural Game, 10-3

WASHINGTON, DC (March 3, 2002) - The George Washington women's lacrosse team began their first season on the right foot, dominating play against the Marist Red Foxes to notch the program's first victory, 10-3.
The Colonials (1-0) were led by a pair of freshmen, Jamie Lee (Berekley, CA/Berkeley) and Heidi Mayer (Havertown, PA/Havertown), with each recording four points for the game. Lee scored four goals on four shots, while Mayer scored two goals and notched two assists. Junior Jacqueline Arfaa (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) added two goals and an assist, while Nadia Kachwaha (Amherst, MA/Amherst) and freshman Meghan McDonough contributed a goal and an assist each.
Freshman goalkeeper Casey Atkins (Concord, MA/Concord Carlisle) had a solid game with seven saves on 10 shots from the Red Foxes. The Colonials outshot Marist 21-10 on the day. Marist was led by freshman Lauren Serge who came off the bench to score a goal and record one assist.
The Colonials return to action on Wednesday, March 13, when they host Mount Saint Mary's in a 3:30 p.m. contest at the Mt. Vernon Athletic Complex.
