WASHINGTON, DC (Feb. 22) - George Washington celebrated their namesake's birthday with a 82-56 victory at Rhode Island, extending their winning streak to 15 games, and remaining undefeated in conference play.
The Colonials (20-6, 15-0) forced the Rams into seven turnovers in the first six minutes and outscored URI 17-2, as GW cruised to a 26-point victory at Keaney Gym. Sophomore Ugo Oha recorded her second-straight double-double, scoring 18 points and collecting 11 boards and six blocks.
GW held URI to just nine field goals and 25 first half points, holding a 15-point lead at the break, 40-25. The Rams used a 5-0 run to start the second half to cut the lead to 10 points, but got any closer and the Colonials never looked back. The Colonials took a game-high 26-point lead as sophomore Alexis Darling capped-off the game with 12-foot baseline jumper as time expired.
Cathy Joens scored 17 points and Lindsey Davidson and Erica Lawrence added 11 and 10 points respectively to round out four Colonials in double figures.
The Rams (14-12, 7-8) were led by Hilary Goodrich and Shayla Johnson, who scored 19 points apiece in the losing effort.
The Colonials return to action on Sunday, Feb. 24, as they travel to Massachusetts to face the Minutewomen in their regular season finale.
