AS A FRESHMAN AT GW IN 2013-14
Played in 32 games with one start at Dayton (2/1/14), averaged 1.0 points and 1.0 assists in 6.5 minutes per game ... Matched career-high with seven assists, against just one turnover, in first collegiate start at Dayton (2/1/14) ... Recorded game-high six assists and added five rebounds and two steals in rout of Delaware State (11/19/13) ... Dished out game-high seven assists, against no turnovers, and added five points in rout of Maine (11/12/13). HIGH SCHOOL
A 6-foot guard from Aibonito, Puerto Rico, Cartagena signed an NLI after two seasons at Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla., the same scholastic program that produced rising GW sophomore guard Patricio Garino. He helped the Eagles to a combined 48-6 record the past two seasons and appearances in the championship game of both the 2012 and 2013 ESPN National High School Invitational (NHSI). As a senior this past season, Cartagena helped Montverde win the prestigious NHSI, City of Palms Classic and Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament (MAIT) titles and achieve a No. 1 final national ranking in all three major polls (ESPN, USA Today, Prep Nation) with a 25-2 record. Cartagena was named to the City of Palms Classic All-Tournament Team as a junior in 2011 and the MAIT All-Tourney Team as a senior in 2012 along with some of the nation's highest-rated recruits of the past two seasons. He is currently No. 164 in the nation in ESPN's shooting guard rankings. Cartagena represented Puerto Rico in the 2011 FIBA Americas U-16 Championship, where he led the event in scoring at 22.4 points over five games.
