WASHINGTON - While it didn't happen by choice, playing without All A-10 big man Rafael Castro against the Fordham Rams was as poorly timed as it gets in regular season play, with the conference's best team on the offensive glass taking advantage of the short-handed Revolutionaries down low.
On Saturday at the Smith Center in D.C.'s Foggy Bottom, the Rams' international interior of Jack Whitbourn (Australia), Rikus Schulte (Germany) and Akira Jacobs (Japan) had their way inside, combining for 31 points and 25 rebounds in Fordham's road 79-65 win. DeJour Reeves led all scorers with 19, as the Rams outscored the GW Revs in the paint (48-26) and outdid themselves on the offensive glass with 16, after coming into action pacing the conference at 13.3 orpg.
George Washington saw three players reach double figures in scoring: Christian Jones (13), Garrett Johnson (11) and Tyrone Marshall (11).
GW's chance to rebound comes Wednesday night at Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m., with a pregame tailgate for George Washington supporters pregame at Hawk & Barrel at 5:30 p.m.
