Volleyball Drops to Virginia in Home Opener

WASHINGTON - GW volleyball got out to an early lead against the Virginia Cavaliers in Saturday's home opener, but ultimately dropped the match to the visitors, 3-1.
· Ultimately, it was the ACC-member who rose to victory in the Smith Center, taking the remaining three sets at 25-21, 25-23 and 25-21.
· As a team, George Washington combined for 52 kills across the four sets.
· Middle blocker Sydney Hasenfratz maintained a strong presence at the net, tallying five blocks and chipping in seven kills over the course of the afternoon.
· At libero, Lydia Zeng and Amina Robinson combined for 17 digs, while setter Dilara Elmacıoğlu set the tempo for the attackers with 40 assists.
· At the service line, Penelope Hiepler and Treahy each earned two aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· Behind 13 team kills in the opening frame, GW jumped out to claim the opening frame, 25-18, holding the lead for the entirety of the stanza. · Ultimately, it was the ACC-member who rose to victory in the Smith Center, taking the remaining three sets at 25-21, 25-23 and 25-21.

· Sophomores Alexis Rodriguez, Cayla Cogan and Taylor Treahy each put down 12 kills across the afternoon to lead the Buff & Blue. · As a team, George Washington combined for 52 kills across the four sets.
