Men’s Basketball’s Winning Streak Halted by Delaware, 70-58
12/10/2025 9:58:00 PM | Men's Basketball
WASHINGTON - Coming into play Wednesday off the thrill of a high-powered win on Saturday during Hall of Fame Weekend and the university's celebration of 50 years of the Smith Center, and with a trip to play the defending national champions in Florida next, pundits could've termed GW men's basketball's mid-week contest against Delaware a proverbial trap game.
Unfortunately for George Washington, those pundits would've been proven right after a 70-58 win by the Blue Hens.
Unlike the fast and furious pace played by William & Mary over the weekend, Delaware slowed the game almost to a halt, using a zone defense on one end and working deep into the shot clock on the other to limit possessions. Whereas Saturday's game saw 134 shots hoisted, the contest had just 111, with Hens guard Christian Bliss, a Virginia transfer, dictating the action. Bliss finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, while Justyn Fernandez, via George Mason and Providence, had a game-high 27 points. Both played the full 40:00.
Trey Autry led GW with 17 as the team's hopes for a 24th straight non-conference home win were crestfallen.
The anticipated matchup with the #18 Gators is next for the Revolutionaries, Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Sunrise, Fla., on ESPN2.
